History[edit]

Medical graduates register using the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Office as residency students or as fellowship students. Residency training is training which results in niche (or subspecialty) certification through the Royal College of Doctors and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in order to certification like a family physician through the College of Family Doctors of Canada (CFPC). Fellowship training, however, doesn't result in certification through the RCPSC or CFPC. Guys are generally clinical guys or research guys. Clinical fellowship training is commonly a one-year to 3-year "topping off" experience for recognized specialists or family doctors. Research guys don't have any patient contact whatsoever.

Observerships (also called "shadowing") don't have any College of Toronto status. Due to the numerous demands the PGME Office receives about this subject, however, our website offers some fundamental details about possibilities to look at patient care in clinical configurations in Toronto.
