
Diploma needs[edit]
The Ontario Academic Credit system is applicable to students from Grades 9 through 12. To acquire an Ontario School Diploma, you have to generate the following compulsory credits:
- 4 credits in a person's first language (British or French) (from Grade 9 - 12),
- 1 credit in a person's second language, either French or British or other language
You have to also earn 1 credit from each one of the following three areas:
- Group 1: 1 additional credit inside a second language (either French or British), an aboriginal language, a or worldwide language, or social sciences and also the humanities, or Canadian and world studies, or guidance and career education, or cooperative education*.
- Group 2: 1 additional credit in health insurance and sports and physical eduction, or even the arts, or business studies, or cooperative education*. By March 2010, 1 additional credit inside a second language (either French or British) may be used rather**.
- Group 3: 1 additional credit in science, or technological education, or cooperative education*. By March 2010, 1 additional credit inside a second language (either French or British) may be used rather.**
Observe that *, only two credits in cooperative education could be counted as compulsory credits, which **, only two additional second language (either French or British) credits could be counted as compulsory: one out of group 1, a treadmill either in group 2 or group 3.
Additionally, students should also have finished:
Observe that students will get his/her community service from the beginning of Grade 9 (such as the summer time between Grade 8 and 9) before the finish of Grade 12, with summer time break and weekends incorporated. If a person fails the Literacy Test, he/they must rewrite the exam the next school year, or complete the Ontario School Literacy Course (OLC 4O) in grade 12.
In Grade 9 and 10 (Years 1 and a pair of, correspondingly), students must complete 16 credits as a whole, 8 every year. In Grade 11 and 12 (Year 3 and 4, correspondingly), you have to complete the 14 remaining credits, with believe it or not than 6 attempted credits every year in compliance with compulsory education law. - 1 credit in science
- 1 credit in health insurance and sports and physical eduction
- 1 credit within the arts, technological education, or computer studies
- 7 additional electives
Certificate of Accomplishment[edit]
The Certificate of Accomplishment might be asked for by students who leave school before they've enough credits to earn either an OSSD or perhaps an OSSC.
