
The Federal Secretary of state for Education and Research (German: Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung), abbreviated BMBF, is really a cabinet-level secretary of state for the government Republic of Germany. It's based in Bonn, by having an office in Berlin. The Ministry provides funding for studies and institutions, adjusts nuclear energy, and sets general educational policy. Additionally, it provides student financial loans in Germany. However, most of educational policy in Germany is made the decision in the condition level, strongly restricting the influence from the ministry in educational matters.

The Government Ministry for Atomic Issues started in 1955, focusing on research within the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy. The ministry was re-named in 1962 to Federal Secretary of state for Research, having a larger scope it had been re-named again, to Federal Secretary of state for Education and Science, in 1969.
Another ministry, the government Secretary of state for Research and Technology, started in 1972. The 2 Ministries merged in 1994 to create the government Ministry for Education, Science, Research and Technology this title was reduced to Federal Ministry for Education and Research in 1998.
